US Bank statement to Excel
US Bank inserts subtotal and total lines at section breaks, and prints a daily balance summary after the ledger. Those subtotal rows look exactly like transactions, which is how people end up with deposits counted twice.
Column layout
Checking and savings statements print a four-column ledger with a running balance.
| Account type | Date column | Description column | Amount column | Balance column |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Checking / savings | Date | Transaction | Amount | Balance |
The three lines to remove
All three appear inside the transaction band and none of them are transactions:
- Subtotal and Total rows at the end of a statement section.
- The continued on next page footer at the bottom of each page.
- The daily balance summary printed after the ledger.
Dates and the year in the header
Some US Bank statement styles print MM/DD in the rows and put the year in the column header. The year is resolved from the statement period, so the exported dates are real date values and sort correctly.
Questions
Why did my totals come out doubled?
A subtotal line was counted as a transaction. Compare the export against the statement's own transaction count rather than the number of text lines.
Does it read US Bank business accounts?
Yes. Business statements use the same layout with longer description text, which is folded back into a single row.
What about US Bank credit cards?
Card statements use one amount column and no balance column, and convert cleanly.
