NatWest statements

NatWest statement to Excel

NatWest labels its two amount columns Paid out and Paid in and writes dates as dd Mmm yyyy. Merging the columns and normalising the dates is what turns a printed statement into a sheet you can sum and pivot.

Column layout

Select and current accounts print five columns.

Brought forward and carried forward

NatWest restarts each page with a brought forward figure and closes with a carried forward figure on some statement styles. Both are running totals, so both are excluded.

Dates that sort correctly

dd Mmm yyyy is normalised to YYYY-MM-DD. That matters because statements run newest first: without a real date value, Excel sorts them as text and your ledger is backwards.

Questions

Does it handle NatWest credit cards?

Yes. Card statements use one amount column with no running balance, and convert directly.

Why are there two amount columns on my statement?

That is the Paid out / Paid in convention. The converter merges them into one signed amount, with payments out negative.

Is the opening balance kept?

It is recorded separately rather than as a transaction row, so it cannot be double counted in your totals.

Try it on your own statement

No account, no card, no email. Convert one file and check the rows against the original.
