Santander statement to Excel
Santander's UK statements use Money Out and Money In with a balance brought forward line on every page, and put the payment reference inside the description — which is the only thing that tells two similar transfers apart.
Column layout
123 Current Account and Everyday accounts print five columns with dates as dd/mm/yyyy.
| Account type | Date column | Description column | Money out | Money in | Balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 123 / Everyday current accounts | Date | Description | Money Out | Money In | Balance |
What gets stripped
Three kinds of page furniture appear in the transaction band:
- Balance brought forward at the top of every page.
- The interest and charges summary box.
- Repeated table headers when the ledger continues onto a new page.
References are preserved
Faster Payments references and standing order names are kept verbatim. Trimming them would make your transfer between two own accounts indistinguishable from a payment to someone else.
Questions
Does it work with Santander credit cards?
Yes. Card statements use a single amount column; purchases are negative and payments positive.
What date format does Santander use?
dd/mm/yyyy, normalised to YYYY-MM-DD so sorting and date filters work in Excel and Google Sheets.
Can I convert a joint account?
Yes. Joint statements use the same layout, and the account holder names in the header are ignored.
